MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An alleged drunk driver facing six felony counts in a crash that killed two Marquette University lacrosse players last year, was found not guilty on all charges Thursday.
A Milwaukee County jury returned its verdict less than 24 hours after receiving the case against 42-year-old Amandria Brunner.
Brunner was one of two drivers charged in the crash that killed 19-year-old Scott Michaud and 20-year-old Noah Snyder on Sept. 5, 2025.
Peter McColgan, a former lacrosse teammate of the victims, who was driving the car the student-athletes were in, is charged with two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
During Brunner’s trial, the defense called McColgan to the stand, outside the presence of the jury, and he exercised his Fifth Amendment to not answer questions.
Authorities say McColgan was driving the Jeep with five passengers inside, four of whom were in the backseat. That included Michaud and Snyder. The two men died at the scene, while others were injured.
According to the criminal complaint, Brunner’s blood, which was drawn about two hours after the crash, had a blood alcohol content of 0.133, above the legal limit of .08. Brunner was also previously convicted of operating while intoxicated in November of 2003.
According to WITI-TV, prosecutors said McColgan sped up to try to beat a yellow light, going more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit, when Brunner’s vehicle turned in front of him at the intersection.
A computer from Brunner’s vehicle showed it was stopped for at least three seconds before it drove into the intersection with the accelerator depressed 96%, doing 11 mph, and did not hit the brakes, court filings said. Data from McColgan’s Jeep showed the driver “depressed the accelerator 100%” at the start of the crash and was going 53 mph.
