DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Downtown De Pere continues to transform.
On Thursday, Marriott held a grand opening for its new extended-stay hotel.
The five-story Towne-Place Suites is where Shopko used to be and across the street from the city’s new parking ramp.
The new 90-unit hotel opened three weeks ago and it’s already bustling with visitors.
This week, it’s welcoming droves for the WIAA volleyball championship.
Local leaders say this Marriott is an instant boon for community growth.
“Clearly they recognized this was a need. And we’re seeing that this is filled most weekends, so that’s pretty good. And it just opened,” said De Pere mayor James Boyd. “It will expose so many people to not just De Pere, but the whole Northeastern Wisconsin area. We think we have something special.”
This is the latest De Pere development. De Pere’s nearby parking ramp and 60-unit apartment complex just opened.
