(WTAQ-WLUK) — WPS customers will see their energy bills go up over the next two years.
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin met Thursday.
After a more than 10-hour meeting, the panel voted to approve the request, however it’s not clear if the utility will be able to raise rates as much as it wanted.
WPS had sought to raise electric rates by about 9.7% next year, plus 4.3% the following year.
For the average customer, that would would be a more than $11 increase on their monthly bill in 2027.
In 2028, there would be another increase of more than $5 per month.
Residents have previously voiced concern that rates are high enough.
WPS has said the rate increase is needed to allow it to bury more power lines, trim more trees and upgrade older equipment.
