(MARQUETTE ATHLETICS) – Marquette University women’s basketball head coach Cara Consuegra has announced the signing of Amina Traore, a 6-foot-2 center from France, to join the Golden Eagles beginning with the 2026-27 season.
Traore arrives in Milwaukee from Paris after competing at multiple levels of French basketball, most recently with Monaco Basket Association in France’s LF2 league. She has also played for Pôle France, Charnay and Mondeville while gaining valuable experience through France’s national team pipeline.
“Amina brings a unique combination of physicality, versatility and experience that will make an immediate impact on our program,” Consuegra said. “She has competed at a high level in France against a variety of styles and competition, and that experience shows in her maturity, adaptability and understanding of the game. She has the ability to anchor the paint defensively, switch onto perimeter players and stretch the floor offensively, which gives us tremendous flexibility on both ends of the court. Just as importantly, Amina is a team-first player who values winning, embraces her role and elevates those around her. Her competitive spirit, work ethic and commitment to her teammates align perfectly with the culture we’re building at Marquette, and we’re excited to see her continue to grow in our program.”
Traore has developed into a versatile frontcourt player capable of impacting both ends of the floor. She most recently appeared in 21 games for Monaco BA during the 2025-26 LF2 season, averaging 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in nine minutes per game.
In addition to her club experience, Traore has represented France in international competition. She competed for France at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, averaging 3.9 rebounds per game across seven contests, after helping France at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship, where she averaged 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Traore’s international resume also includes participation in France’s youth national team system beginning at the U16 level, providing experience against some of the top young talent in the world.
