(WNFL/LEARFIELD – The Milwaukee Brewers lost the opener of their west coast road trip 3-2 to the San Diego Padres in San Diego on Monday night.
The Brewers scored their 2 runs in the second inning on a 2-run home run by Christian Yelich with William Contreras on base.
San Diego answered with a run in their half of the inning with a solo home run by Ty France. Jackson Merrill then put the Padres ahead 3-2 in the seventh with a 2-run home run with France on base.
Jackson Chourio had 3 of the Brewers’ 6 hits.
Logan Henderson took the loss for the Brewers to fall to 6-2. He allowed 3 runs in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Logan Henderson pitched well, but..
Murphy said that Henderson did all we asked tonight.
He said that it’s hard to waste an outing like Henderson had.
Murphy said that the Brewers did some good things.
Casey Mize started for San Diego and pitched the first 6 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Yuki Matsui pitched the seventh to get the win. Mason Miller pitched the ninth for his 30th save.
The 2 teams meet again tonight with Kyle Harrison who is 9-2 with a 2.84 ERA pitching for the Brewers.
The Padres will counter with Walker Buehler who is 6-5 with a 5.07 ERA.
