(WTAQ-WLUK) — An animal rescue group secured the release of an additional 135 beagles from a Dane County breeding and research facility as part of an ongoing rescue effort.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue will transfer 67 dogs from Ridglan Farms to the Big Dog Ranch Rescue Florida Campus on Wednesday where they will be spayed/neutered and prepared for adoptions throughout the country.
It did not say where the rest of the dogs will go.
In April, Big Dog Ranch Rescue partnered with the Center for a Humane Economy to acquire 1,500 beagles from Ridglan Farms. Those dogs were taken in by rescue groups across the Midwest and the country, including Green Bay.
Prior to the recent rescue, it was reported Ridglan Farms still had about 500 dogs at its facility.
Animal welfare groups say they will continue to work with Ridglan Farms into finding a pathway to secure ownership of the remaining dogs at a time that is appropriate for the company.
