APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton officials have approved steeper fines for people who violate the city’s noise ordinance, a move aimed at cutting down on excessive car noise in the downtown area.
The Appleton Common Council voted 11-1 to increase the penalty for noise ordinance violations. Under the new structure, a first-time offense will be subject to a $250 fine. A second offense will cost $400, and a third offense will be $800.
Police cited 19 drivers in August for noise-related violations. Those violations include excessive revving and tire squealing, equipping an illegal muffler, and having a modified or defective exhaust.
In a separate action, the Common Council also approved changing the name of Veterans Park to Memorial Bridge Park, which was its original name. The renaming was needed to avoid confusion after Memorial Park on the city’s north side was renamed Veterans Memorial Park.
