(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) CHICAGO – Mads Konrad Horgoien scored twice and Marquette recorded its fifth shutout of the season as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 4-0 victory over DePaul Saturday afternoon at Wish Field. Marquette improved to 9-5-1 overall and 2-4-0 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul fell to 4-4-5 overall and 1-2-2 in conference action.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the 19th minute when Konrad Horgoien tapped in a setup from Antonio Costabile. Just over six minutes later, Gabe Watkins doubled the advantage with his first goal of the season. Costabile collected his second assist of the afternoon, dropping in a cross to the freshman on the back post.
The Golden Eagles wasted little time adding to their advantage after the break. Just 44 seconds into the second half, Konrad Horgoien struck again, ripping a right-to-left shot past Chance Johnson to make it 3-0.
Marquette continued to control the match throughout the second half, creating several quality opportunities before freshman Aiden Goldberg capped the scoring in the 80th minute. Goldberg scored his first collegiate goal, slipping a shot by Johnson after a Mateo Stoka found him darting into the box.
Goalkeeper Cameron Simpson made three saves and posted the shutout as Marquette held DePaul to three shots on goal compared to the Golden Eagles’ nine.
