KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Kaukauna Library is welcoming 500 new large print books to it’s collection.
The addition is part of a $20,000 donation from the Retirement Housing Foundation in the form of it’s Friend of the Elderly award.
In 2024, their local retirement home Round House Manor was damaged by a tornado. The hospitality the city showed their residents led to the donation.
The books, according to RHF, will bring accessibility to reading for older library-goers.
“As time goes by it becomes more and more challenging to read, so larger print in books actually benefits the individual so that they can read and remain up to speed on things they enjoy,” said RHF President and CEO Stuart Hartman.
This marks the first time the Friend of the Elderly award has been given to a city and not a person.
Other recipients include Willard Scott, Shelley Fabares, and Tom Bradley, former mayor of the city of Los Angeles.
The books account for $10,000 of the donation. Mayor Tony Penterman says the city has yet to decide what to do with the remaining $10,000.
