TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The person whose body was found in a Two Rivers harbor has been identified as Payton Vertz, 16.
Two Rivers police say Vertz’s body was found Friday night near the Seagull Marina, on the south side of the Lake Michigan harbor.
“We recognize that information is circulating on various platforms and people want to know more. However, this is a very dynamic ongoing investigation which we will not jeopardize at the expense of sharing information,” Police Chief Ben Meinnert wrote in a social media post. “Two individuals are in custody in conjunction with this investigation. We continue to gather evidence and verify information, and will provide updated suspect information and charges in the near future.”
Closures of Zander Park and the Ice Age Trail over the weekend were connected to the investigation, police said. Those areas have since reopened to the public.
Police have confirmed a legitimate online fundraiser has been set up to benefit the family.
“Payton’s loss has deeply impacted not only his family, but also friends and the wider community who are mourning a life taken far too soon,” the fundraiser’s organizer wrote.
