KESHENA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two deer have tested positive for chronic wasting disease on the Menominee Reservation.
The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin says one deer was harvested in the Jackson Creek area and the other was harvested near Southeast Pine Lake.
All positive CWD results to date have come in the southeast corner of the reservation.
With the positive tests, the reservation is reminding hunters about its longstanding ordinance banning deer baiting.
Chronic wasting disease is a fatal, infectious disease that affects the nervous systems of deer, moose, elk and reindeer or caribou. It was first detected in Wisconsin in 2002.
There are no known cases of human infection from contact with deer or venison.
