BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More food could be coming to Brown County community gardens next year, fueled by funding included in next year’s budget for UW-Extension and its team.
Brown County has 13 community garden sites, and the funding will be directed to the areas that need the most improvements. County officials say there has been a growing need for people to have a curiosity about where their food is coming from. The county also has a waitlist of gardeners who want to expand their operations.
Debra Polster said interest has been strong as people look ahead to future growing seasons.
“This week my phone’s been ringing, people are ready to plant for 2027 but they do not have a garden plot with us yet. So we are super excited that we have this opportunity to do some things with our infrastructure, make it stronger and add to it,” Polster said.
Polster said the gardens are closing this year’s gardening season, but the season will open ahead of 2027 in December for returning gardeners. For interested new gardeners, visit the UW-Madison website for more details.
