(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – The Green Bay volleyball team knocked off the Milwaukee Panthers 3-2 (14-25, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13) Tuesday on the road at Klotsche Center to extend their winning streak to eight games, the longest win streak for the team since 2022. The Horizon League victory improved Green Bay’s record to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in league action.
The Phoenix offense was paced by Diane Pichelman, who finished with 14 kills on the day; Gillian Koning and Kirsten Fish each chipped in with 11 kills as part of a balanced Green Bay attack. Defensively, the Phoenix had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Macy Kline’s 24 (tied a career-high), 12 from Alexa Hernandez, and 12 more from Kelsey Justman. From the front row, Olivia Neumann and Kirsten Fish each added a team-high eight blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-14. Milwaukee grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up three times before the Panthers took control.
SET 2 | Green Bay evened the match at 1-1 after a 25-20 set-two win. The Phoenix grabbed a 7-6 before going on a 7-0 run that gave them a commanding advantage. Green Bay’s front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Milwaukee attacks in the set.
SET 3 | Green Bay built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one. The Phoenix grabbed the first points and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-17 victory. Green Bay opened up as much as a nine-point lead at 11-2 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills along the way.
SET 4 | Green Bay couldn’t keep the win streak going, as the Panthers forced a fifth set with a 26-24 fourth-set win. The Phoenix couldn’t survive a ferocious Milwaukee rally, losing after leading by seven points at 17-10 earlier in the set.
SET 5 | Green Bay finished it off in the fifth for their third straight five-set win. The set was one of the closest of the night, with the two teams finding themselves tied at 12 all. GB grabbed three of the final four points to win it 15-13.
