(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MOUNT VERNON, IA- St. Norbert College opened its trip to Iowa with a 3-0 setback to Cornell College in a non-conference game at Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Green Knights (1-10) fell to the Rams 25-17, 25-21, 25-20.
St. Norbert trailed 17-10 in the opening set before closing the gap on a 6-2 run. After a kill from Anna Kudick to make it 21-17, Cornell took the first set following several attacking errors from the Green Knights. Kills from Kudick and Gracie Buss gave St. Norbert some life in the second set while trailing 19-15 before five straight errors from the Rams tied the game, 20-20. The Rams were able to recover and closed the second set on a 5-1 run.
The Green Knights held a 12-11 lead in the third set but eventually succumbed to Cornell’s rally. A late St. Norbert effort closed the deficit to 22-19 before Cornell completed the sweep.
The Green Knights hit .011 with 22 kills against 21 errors in 90 attempts. Kudick led the Green Knights with five kills, while Kayden Lamon and Kirsten Klatt had four each. Keira Ashenfelter had eight assists.
Maddie Kitowski (pictured) led with nine digs while Ashlynn Vande Voort had eight. Alli Clark and Lamon had three blocks each.
Cornell hit .158 with 34 kills against 19 errors in 95 attempts. Ashlin Nottestad had a match-high 10 kills for the Rams.
