Green Bay Phoenix men’s, women’s soccer both earn draws on Sunday

(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) ST. PAUL, MN – The Green Bay men’s soccer team picked up a draw on the road Sunday at St. Thomas.

The Phoenix trailed 1-0 at half before Noah Radeke found an equalizer for Green Bay in the 74^th minute.

The draw moved Green Bay’s record to 0-1-1 overall.

“Getting a point on the road is never easy,” said head coach John O’Reilly. “We did a really good job battling back to tie it up after going down 1-0. The effort and commitment we showed in the second half is something we will need consistently throughout the season.”

HOW IT HAPPENED
St. Thomas broke the 0-0 tie when Oliver Corris scored in the 30th minute, assisted by Giovanni Agogliati and Rodrigo Salamanca Lopez. The Tommies outshot the Phoenix 3-1 in the first half.

The Phoenix flipped the script in the second half, putting immense pressure on the Tommies’ goal. GB outshot the Tommies in the second half 10-4. Green Bay found the game’s equalizer in the 73^rd minute when Radeke scored his first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Nathan Moua. The 1-1 score then held until the end of the game.

GAME NOTES

• Both teams received four yellow cards. Green Bay’s cards were given to Oscar Arroyo, Justin Arias, Kamden Held, and Moua.
• Drew Swancutt collected three saves for the Phoenix out of seven total Tommies shots.
• Green Bay totaled three shots on goal, while St. Thomas had four.

COMING UP
Green Bay will continue its road trip at Drake on Wednesday, when they take on the Bulldogs at Mediacom Stadium at 5 p.m.

WOMEN

GREEN BAY 0 OMAHA 0 

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay women’s soccer team and Omaha played to a 0-0 tie Sunday at home at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Green Bay has now shutout opponents in three out of its four games played.

Green Bay moved to 3-0-1 overall after the draw, remaining undefeated through four matches for the first time since 1996.

“This was a typical Sunday game,” said head coach Matt Kagan. “It was a hard fought match that in the end I felt was a fair result. I thought our second half play was very good in terms of keeping the ball, but we didn’t turn that possession into quality scoring chances…but the good news is we also were very good defensively and earned another shutout!”

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay totaled seven shots in the scoreless tie, with one of them on goal. The Phoenix held Omaha to only three shots with just two shots on goal all in the first five minutes of the game.

Early in the second half it appeared Kendall Jackson had given Green Bay the lead on a header goal from a corner kick off the boot of Ava Nielsen, but an offsides call by a Phoenix attacker wiped the goal off the board. The score remained 0-0, as neither team found the net eventually resulting in the draw.

GAME NOTES

• Green Bay received one yellow card to Laney Stark in the 89^th minute.
• Green Bay outshot Omaha 7-3 on the day.
• Green Bay is now 1-2-1 all-time against Omaha.
• This is the first draw between the Phoenix and the Mavericks in their fourth all-time meeting.
