(GREEN BAY ROCKERS) ROYAL OAK, MICH – A four-run third inning led the charge for the Leprechauns as they bested the Rockers Saturday night by a score of 9-2.
There wasn’t too much to write home about at Memorial Park, as Green Bay’s offense fell flat for most of the night. After the top of the third, the Rockers only trailed by one, but a four-spot in the third inning, including two Royal Oak home runs, gave the Leprechauns a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Green Bay got one back when Daniel Harden (Houston) drove in Zac Grossman (UW-Whitewater) to move Green Bay a bit closer. However, Royal Oak responded right away with two more runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth, making it 7-2.
The Leprechauns would go on to score another two runs, one in each the sixth and seventh, and close the door on Green Bay’s chances of a seventh straight win. Jack Sequin (Saginaw Valley State) threw the maximum amount you can as a pitcher in the Northwoods League, carving up Green Bay in his sixth and two-thirds innings of work. He gave up just one run, while walking two and striking out five.
The Rockers return to Memorial Park for the series finale Sunday, and still sit 3.5 games back in the race for the Great Lakes West second-half title.
The Rockers return home on Monday, August 3, hosting the Wausau Woodchucks! First pitch is slated for 6:35 pm,
