(LEARFIELD) – Rookie left-hander Zach Thornton and three relievers shut out the Brewers on four singles Tuesday night as the New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 at American Family Field.
That ended Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak.
The Mets scored the only run they needed on a solo home run by Jared Young in the second inning.
Thornton allowed 3 hit and 1 walk over 6 shut out innings.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Thornton was good.
Another rookie, Brandon Sproat, gave up two of the runs while taking his fifth defeat.
.Murphy said that Sproat’s pitch count was too high.
He added more on Sproat’s outing.
Sproat said that he just had to keep going after a long first inning.
Sproat went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.
Chad Patrick and Bryse Wilson both gave up runs in relief for Milwaukee.
The Brewers who had only 4 hits were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Murphy talked about his team’s poor offensive showing.
Logan Henderson starts for the Brewers Wednesday afternoon in the rubber game of the three-game set.
