GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Brown County Board approved the name ‘American Independence Bridge’ for the bridge being built in southern Brown County during a meeting Wednesday night.
The name is to mark America’s 250th anniversary.
Board members voted 17 to 8 in favor of the name with no discussion.
Where there was discussion was online, where most of those who chimed in on the WTAQ Facebook page disagreed with the name.

Supervisor Andy Nicholson, District 3 was listed as excused.
Construction of the bridge is scheduled to start in 2028 and be done in 2030.
An interchange from I-41 will also provide a quicker route to and from the Fox Valley. That part of the project is expected to be done at the end of this year.
