MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A judge says the man who allegedly brought a loaded gun and knives to a school blood drive in Peshtigo is not competent to stand trial.
The case against 34-year-old Trevor Salewsky has been put on hold while he receives psychiatric treatment.
Salewsky faces eight counts, including possession of a firearm on school grounds, for the Jan. 26 incident.
During the court hearing Monday, a judge accepted the report that Salewsky currently is not competent. Another review of his status is scheduled for Oct. 26, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, while he was being arrested, Salewsky told a police officer the “Sheriff’s Department is trying to murder me.” He also asked the officer if he was trying to kill him.
The complaint went on to say Salewsky escaped from handcuffs in the back of a squad vehicle using a key he had hidden. When he arrived at the jail, Salewsky allegedly attacked a police officer and tried to grab the officer’s Taser. Another correctional officer used his own Taser to help subdue Salewsky. In all, five correctional officers were needed to get Salewsky under control. The arresting officer was injured and placed on light duty.
The handcuff key was found in Salewsky’s underwear.
Police said they learned from Salewsky’s mother he had been diagnosed with epilepsy as a child, but had stopped taking medication at age 13 at the recommendation of a doctor.
