(WIAC) – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners for the 2026 women’s outdoor track & field season based on voting by the conference coaches.
University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Izzy Peterson received Track Performer of the Meet honors from the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver’s), while UW-La Crosse’s Maya Evans was tabbed the Field Performer of the Meet. UW-Stevens Point’s Faith Wehrman was named the Newcomer of the Year and UW-La Crosse claimed Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Peterson won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 11.80 seconds and 24.12 seconds, respectively. Her time in the 200-meter dash established a WIAC championship record. Peterson was also a member of the fourth place 4×100-meter relay team.
Evans posted first-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 19-7 (5.97m) and 39-1 1/4 (11.92m), respectively.
Wehrman won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:24.97. Her time set a WIAC championship record, breaking the old mark that was set in 1981 by UW-Parkside’s Wendy Burman.
UW-La Crosse’s coaching staff led the squad to their 14th consecutive conference title. The coaching staff includes: head coach Nickolas Davis; assistant coaches Izzy Carroll (throws), Meg Cook (sprints), Doug Geiwitz (pole vault), Elizabeth May (sprints), Julianne Merkes (throws/professional development coordinator), Jim Nelson (throws), Sierra Rabe (distance), Derek Stanley (distance), Jenna Starck (high jump), Jakob Tordsen (multis/pole vault), and Katie Wagner (sprints/hurdles/relays); strength & conditioning coordinator Phil Whitesitt; head athletic trainer McKenzi Schornack; and staff athletic trainers Ryley Freiborg and Kelsey Galles.
Men’s track and field

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Luke Schroeder received Track Performer of the Meet honors from the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver’s), while UW-Oshkosh’s Gavin Fritsch was tabbed the Field Performer of the Meet. UW-La Crosse’s Landon Gallun was named the Newcomer of the Year and UW-La Crosse claimed Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Schroeder won the 110-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash with times of 13.32 seconds and 21.13 seconds, respectively. His time in the 110-meter hurdles established a NCAA Division III record, conference championship record and facility record. Schroeder added second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash and javelin.
Fritsch won the hammer throw with a fling of 196-7 (59.93m), while placing fourth in discus.
Gallun finished fifth at the WIAC championship in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.47 seconds and seventh in the 200-meter dash in 22.14 seconds. He was a member of the second-place 4×100-meter relay team.
UW-La Crosse’s coaching staff led the squad to its fourth consecutive WIAC title with a championship record 335 points. and 60th in program history. The coaching staff includes: head coach Josh Buchholtz; assistant coaches Doug Geiwtz (pole vault), Matt Gordy (sprints), Mark Guthrie (400-meter dash/400-meter hurdles), Nick Kohl (jumps), Tommy Knoche (pole vault), Jim Nelson (throws), Derek Stanley (distance) and Jakob Tordsen (multis); consultant Phil Esten; athletic trainers Dr. Brea Stanton and Kelsey Galles; and sports performance director Phil Whitesitt.
