MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Eugene Winkel was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old. He faces sentencing Thursday for a similar conviction in Brown County involving a 15-year-old.
Winkel, 24, was also placed on extended supervision for four years on the second-degree sexual assault conviction. Additionally, he must register as a sex offender, Judge Anthony Lambrecht ruled.
Before the sentence was issued, Winkel apologized, saying he wished he never would have let it happen.
“I made a very big mistake. And it’s something that I have to live with the rest of my life,” he said. “I’m extremely remorseful for my actions. If I could go back and undo what happened, I would, any day of the week.”
In the Manitowoc County case, the girl was at a party with at Winkel’s Two Rivers’ apartment with several other people. At one point, he entered the bedroom where she was sleeping, and the two had sex, the complaint states.
In the Brown County case, Winkel will be sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to second-degree sexual assault of a child for a November, 2023, incident with a then-15-year-old girl.
According to the complaint, Winkel connected with the girl online. They eventually met, with Winkel picking her up and taking her to a park. After she had about six cans of beer, he forced himself on her, and they had sex. He denied that she told him to stop.
