Lawrence University defensive back Jahlan Paul earns league honors

(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University football standout Jahlan Paul has been chosen as Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a fine performance against Beloit College.
Paul (North Lauderdale, Fla./Westminster), a first-year defensive back, picked off two passes and returned one for a critical touchdown in Lawrence’s 24-10 victory at Beloit this past Saturday.
Paul, who added a pair of tackles and another pass breakup in the contest, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. He’s the first Lawrence defensive player to be chosen since Jacob Stanley was selected on Sept. 25, 2023.
With Lawrence holding a 17-10 lead, Paul intercepted a pass midway through the fourth quarter at the Lawrence 40-yard line to snuff out a Beloit drive. On Beloit’s next possession, Paul intercepted a pass at midfield and returned it 50 yards for a back-breaking touchdown and a 24-10 advantage.
Paul’s first collegiate touchdown helped Lawrence to its first victory since the 2021 season. Paul pushed his interception total on the season to a league-best six. No one else in the Midwest Conference has more than three interceptions in 2024.
To go with the six interceptions, Paul has 14 tackles and six pass breakups.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Illinois College for a Midwest Conference game.
