With a pitching staff ravaged by injury early in the season, the Milwaukee Brewers threw a couple of rookies into the fire Tuesday night at PNC Park where the Pittsburgh Pirates came away with a 2-1 victory, their second straight in the four game series. Tobias Myers made his major league debut for Milwaukee and his first pitch as a big leaguer was hit out of the park by one time Brewer Andrew McCutcheon. It was his second lead-off homer in as many days. Myers was able to settle down and got through five innings, allowing the one run on 4 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts in his debut. He gave way to another young arm in Jared Koenig who gave up three straight singles and a run to start the 6th inning. Connor Jo delivered the RBI knock for a 2-0 lead. The Brewers avoided the shutout when Gary Sanchez drove a long home run to left in the top of the 8th but Milwaukee managed only three hits total against Pirate starter Bailey Falter and the bullpen. Milwaukee drops to 14-8 on the year, holding the NL Central lead by a half game over the 14-9 Chicago Cubs who beat Houston Tuesday night 7-2. Milwaukee will turn to reliever turned starter Bryse Wilson in game three of the series against Pittsburgh’s Josh Fleming. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:05 PM with a 5:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
