(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – With its nonconference slate complete, the Marquette women’s basketball team turns its focus to 17 BIG EAST games during the next nine weeks. The Golden Eagles will begin the stretch by hosting St. John’s on Monday night at the Al McGuire Center.
Monday’s game will stream on ESPN+ with Bob Brainred and Chloe Marotta on the call. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
THE STARTING FIVE
- Marquette will host its seventh game of the season at the Al McGuire Center on Monday. The Golden Eagles are 6-0 this season at home, and during MU’s three games in Milwaukee this month, the Golden Eagles have outscored their opponents by 38.3 points per game.
- In what was viewed as a weakness in Cara Consuegra‘s first year, the 3-ball has become a strength for the Golden Eagles in Year 2. MU sits sixth in the country at 39.7%. Five of the team’s eight players who have attempted 10 or more this season are shooting above a 40% clip.
- Matching her career-high for the second time this season last time out with 26 points, Skylar Forbes has posted three 20-point games in her last six appearances, twice reaching that career mark. She ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 16.8 points per game.
- With 27 straight games with the same starting lineup, Consuegra was forced to make her first change in over 11 months as Jaidynn Mason came down ill prior to Marquette’s game against Truman State.
- Marquette’s strength this season comes in its experience and continuity as the program is the only one in Division I women’s college basketball to return all of its players from the 2024-25 season.
BY THE NUMBERS
5 – Through 12 games, Marquette has five games with double-digit made 3-pointers. In four of the previous five years, MU had just one or fewer such games. The 2023-24 season saw six.
9.0 – An emphasis during the offseason for Marquette was to increase its efficiency from outside. MU has seen an increase of 9% on its shooting 3, jumping to 39.7% and ranking No. 6 in the NCAA.
21.3 – Since scoring a then-season-high 24 points on Nov. 30, Skylar Forbes has been on a tear averaging 21.3 points per game during her last six outings.
