ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Ashwaubenon Public Safety will begin the new year with a new leader.
Last week, the Ashwaubenon Police and Fire Commission appointed Tomas Baxter as the next Chief of Public Safety for the Village of Ashwaubenon.
Baxter will be officially sworn into office on Jan. 2, 2026.
“I am thrilled and grateful to the Village of Ashwaubenon, the Police and Fire Commission, the Village’s leadership team, the Public Safety Department, and the community for this opportunity and for entrusting me with this significant responsibility,” Baxter said. “I look forward to continuing to serve our residents, business owners, and other key stakeholders through the delivery of the highest quality police, fire, and emergency medical services.”
Baxter has served the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department in various roles for more than 21 years. He began his career as a public safety officer in 2004 and has advanced through the ranks of the department. His experience includes service as a paramedic, field training officer, SWAT team member, lieutenant, captain, and most recently, Commander of Operations.
Baxter holds an associate’s degree in Fire/Medic from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Command College for Law Enforcement and a Certified Public Manager through the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Prior to beginning his career in public safety, Baxter served in the United States Coast Guard.
