(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – Five Phoenix scored in double figures as the Green Bay Women’s basketball team beat the New Hampshire Wildcats 76-64 at home Thursday. Tuesday was also Education Day at the Kress Center, where a thousand-plus local elementary students packed the gym to cheer on the Phoenix.
Green Bay took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Thursday’s game, piling up 24 assists on 30 made field goals. Peppler’s six assists led the distribution list for the Phoenix, and Buzzelle also added four assists of her own.
The Green Bay defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday’s game, forcing 14 New Hampshire turnovers while committing 10 of their own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 14-9 advantage, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 2:53 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 21-9. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 23-12 advantage.
Green Bay kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on another 7-0 run starting at the 7:32 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Peppler, to increase its lead to 18 at 32-14. The Wildcats cut into that lead before the break, but the Phoenix still enjoyed a 38-27 advantage heading into halftime.
Following intermission, Green Bay continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 48-35 before a third 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Schultz, to expand its lead further to 55-35 with 3:41 to go in the third. Green Bay played well near the basket in the third, scoring 16 of its 23 points in the paint.
New Hampshire showed life in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Phoenix 23-15. That wasn’t enough to make the game especially close down the stretch, as GB secured the 76-64 win.

Green Bay will be tested in its final stretch before Horizon League play starts, starting with a trip to Wisconsin on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST. Following, the Phoenix will host RV Kansas State before playing in the Cancun Challenge against #10 NC State and RV Richmond.
