OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A lawsuit has been filed after a 5-year-old girl in Outagamie County was targeted by predators while playing Roblox.
The suit against Roblox Corporation, an online game platform and game creation system, was filed in northern California, where the company is headquartered.
Dolman Law Group filed the complaint on behalf of the Outagamie County mother and her young daughter. They are currently remaining anonymous, and the daughter is being identified as Jane Doe.
“At the time that this happened, the child was 5 years old and so it’s really important to keep the minor and the minor’s family confidential,” said Jamie Powers, attorney at Dolman Law Group.
According to the suit, Doe was an avid user of Roblox.
“Believing there were proper safeguards in place, Doe’s mother allowed her young daughter to use the online gaming platform, trusting Roblox’s representations of child safety. During her daughter’s usage in 2025, it’s alleged five-year-old Doe unknowingly encountered dangerous male predators – masquerading as children – who began grooming Doe. Eventually gaining her trust, it claims the predators would intensify their grooming tactics by sending the child sexually explicit messages and images of themselves while manipulating Doe into reciprocating with graphic images and videos of herself including touching her genitals.”
Matthew Dolman, principal of Dolman Law Group, said, “This case against Roblox is a terrifying reminder of the world we live in where capitalist greed far outweighs humanity. There have never been sufficient safety measures and protocols in place, putting our youngest and most vulnerable communities into unimaginable harm’s way every second of the day. Without forcing systemic change, Roblox will continue to operate anarchically.”
A statement from Roblox reads:
We are deeply troubled by any incident that endangers our users. While we cannot comment on claims raised in litigation, Roblox’s vision is to be the safest place on the internet, which is why our policies are purposely stricter than those found on many other platforms. We limit chat for younger users, don’t allow the sharing of external images and have filters designed to block the sharing of personal information. We are continually innovating new safety enhancements including – over 100 this year alone – aimed at helping protect our users and empowering parents and caregivers with greater control and visibility. While no system is perfect, Roblox is designed with rigorous built in safety features. We also understand that this is an industry-wide issue, and we are actively dedicating resources, such as parental controls, to empower caregivers and set boundaries for kids, as well working to develop industry-wide standards and solutions focused on keeping children safe online. We partner with law enforcement and leading child safety and mental health organizations worldwide to combat the sexual exploitation of children.
The lawsuit is for an unspecified dollar amount. It alleges Doe suffered “life-altering injuries including severe mental anguish and pain in addition to enduring humiliation, shame, fear and a loss of innocence.”
A lawsuit against Roblox was filed Monday by the state of Kentucky, accusing Roblox Corporation of deciding against using safety controls to protect children from potential sex offenders and not warning parents of child users of possible dangers in the game.
Also on Monday, Roblox announced the launch of a parent council to ” offer their perspectives and serve as a voice for parents in their regions, bringing forward concerns, positive feedback, and suggestions for improvements.”
The council will run from January to December in 2026.
The deadline to apply is Oct. 26.
