(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – The Marquette University women’s soccer team (5-3-2, 1-0-2 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST Conference play with a 3-1 win against St. John’s (2-5-4, 0-2-2 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night at Valley Fields.
After St. John’s moved ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute on the team’s first shot on goal, the Golden Eagles took control of the half, finishing with a 12-3 advantage in shots. Senior Josie Bieda got Marquette on the board at the 22:37 mark, guiding home a rebound from just outside the box.
Junior Capri Oliviero punched home a failed clearance at the 36:59 mark for her first-career goal to give Marquette a 2-1 advantage.
Marquette, which finished with a 24-4 advantage in shots, moved ahead 3-1 at the 48:12 mark when freshman Clare Shea tapped home a rebound from a Coco Dorfman shot for her second goal of the campaign.
“Really proud of the resiliency we showed after falling behind early,” head coach Chris Allen said. “It didn’t change the mentality or intensity level and for Josie Bieda to get it back for us and to finish with three set-piece goals was impressive.”
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles conclude a two-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 4 when the team hosts DePaul at Valley Fields.
