(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers managed just 3 hits off 6 Cincinnati Reds pitchers in a 3-1 loss at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Friday.
Christian Yelich had a double and Brice Turang and Sal Frelick each had singles for the Brewers.
Tied 1-1 after 5 innings, Cincinnati pushed across 2 runs in the sixth inning on a double by Gavin Lux, a run-scoring single by Miguel Andujar and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Stephenson.
Quinn Priester had his winning streak snapped, falling to 13-3 after allowing 9 hits and 3 runs in 5-plus innings.
Connor Phillips got the win for Cincinati after pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief of starting pitcher Zack Littell.
The loss drops the Brewers record to 96-64 and leaves them 1 game ahead of Philadelphia in the race for the top seed in the National League playoffs.
If the Brewers drop the final 2 games to Cincinnati and Philadelphia wins both of its remaining games, the Phillies would get the top seed while the Brewers would get the second seed. If the Brewers win 1 of their 2 final games, Milwaukee will have the top seed.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, with the win and the New York Mets’ loss to the Chicago Cubs moved into the final wild card spot. The Reds and Mets have the save record but the Reds hold the tie-breaking advantage over the Mets.
