(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – The Green Bay women’s soccer team’s second home game of the 2025 season ended in a draw, as the Phoenix tied Illinois State 1-1. Senah Hanes scored the Phoenix goal, her team-leading third of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A first-half lightning delay broke up the momentum for both teams, with neither gaining an edge in the first 45 minutes. At the half, Green Bay slightly outshot the Redbirds, 6-4. Both teams finished the half with two shots on goal.
Illinois State broke the tie quickly in the second half, scoring off a corner kick in the 51st minute. The Redbirds’ Erika Wells sent the ball into the middle of the box, where Abby Hall redirected it to the back of the Phoenix net. The game changed in the 64th minute, when Redbirds’ defender Ava Watson picked up her second yellow card of the match, and ISU went down to 10 players for the rest of the game. With the player advantage, the Phoenix was able to pressure the visitor’s goal. That pressure resulted in Senah Hanes drawing a penalty kick in the 78th minute, which she then buried to tie the game back up at 1-1. Green Bay had a corner kick chance in the final 10 seconds, but couldn’t find the back of the net as the match ended in a draw.
