WINNECONNE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh woman was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop in Winneconne uncovered crack cocaine.
It happened shortly before 2 p.m. near West Main Street, when a Winneconne police officer conducted a stop on a suspicious vehicle in front of a local daycare.
A deputy with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and his K9 partner searched the vehicle and discovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Three people were inside the vehicle: a 66-year-old male, a 57-year-old female and a 49-year-old female, all from the Oshkosh area. Officials say each one admitted to recent drug use.
Further investigation revealed the 49-year-old woman provided false identification and had three active warrants for her arrest. She was also reported to be a transient prostitute on active probation.
After she was taken into custody, the woman told police the group had recently visited a drug house in Oshkosh, where they were all smoking crack but had “run out of their supply.” She said they were driving to an assisted living facility in Winneconne to obtain money from a patient there in order to purchase more crack in Oshkosh.
The woman was booked at the Winnebago County Jail on the three active warrants and a probation hold. The following charges are being referred to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office:
- Possession of cocaine (2nd+ offense)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Resisting/obstructing an officer
- Bail jumping
“We are actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of the assisted living residents involved and the entire community and will continue to investigate any further connections. Protecting our most vulnerable community members is a top priority,” a news release from the Winneconne Police Department states.
