PESHTIGO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Milwaukee Brewers fever ran high in Marinette County Wednesday, as Northeast Wisconsin’s only George Webb location handed out free hamburgers in honor of the Brewers’ recent winning streak.
The diner chain is giving out the burgers from 2-6 p.m. It also handed out 100,000 vouchers for free burgers to be redeemed at a later date.
George Webb’s connection to baseball dates to the 1940s, when the restaurant’s founder predicted the Brewers — then the name of a minor league team — would win 12 consecutive games.
The first time for free burgers was in 1987. The Brewers repeated the feat to trigger a burger giveaway in 2018.
The Brewers won their 12th straight game on Aug. 13, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee went on to win two more games before the streak ended on Sunday with a loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
