(LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers got swept by Chicago Cubs in a Tuesday doubleheader at Wrigley Field in Chicago and saw their lead in the National League Central Division slip to 7 games.
Christian Yelich homered for Milwaukee, and Sal Frelick had two hits and two RBI but it wasn’t enough as the Crew dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-4 to Chicago.
The bats were less effective in game two, as the Cubs beat the Brewers 4-1.
Andrew Vaughn’s first-inning RBI single accounted for Milwaukee’s only run.
Milwaukee right-hander Brandon Woodruff (4-1) permitted three runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings in his eighth start of the season.
He talked about losing 2 to the Cubs.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell talked about why his team was able to sweep the Brewers.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Brandon Woodruff didn’t get any breaks.
Murphy also talked about shortstop Joey Ortiz leaving the game in the 7th with injury.
Murphy said that even though the Brewers scored only 5 runs in the doubleheader, the offense is still doing its job.
