GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new community resource in Green Bay’s Shipyard District is making a difference for local residents.
On Wednesday, neighborhood leaders celebrated the opening of a donation box that will be permanently located along the south side of 8th Street Park on 8th Street.
The box is stocked with all sorts of free supplies, such as blankets, bandages, test strips, socks, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, other hygiene supplies, toiletries and material resources.
People can donate goods to the box, and others who are less fortunate can then take any items they need, at no cost.
“The mission of the box reflects the mission of the neighborhood, which is to serve neighbors here by neighbors helping neighbors,” said Tarl Knight, director of Shipyard District Inc. “Whether that’s supporting their families, whether it’s helping them to keep up their hygiene, whether there are lifesaving overdose medications there, or other toiletries that help families just get by.”
Those things are all improving the quality of life for folks in this neighborhood and throughout our downtown.
Knight said the Shipyard District is a resource-limited area where a lot of low-income families and children reside, so it’s important to neighborhood leaders to go the extra mile to help support those in need.
This project was made possible through Mini-Grant funding provided by Green Bay Neighborhoods and the city of Green Bay.
