(WTAQ-WLUK) — In an effort to combat overcrowding at its shelter locations, the Wisconsin Humane Society is temporarily reducing dog adoption fees.
“Dog kennel capacity is at crisis level, and we are in desperate need of canine adopters and foster parents. Right now, we are caring for nearly 400 dogs across our organization, with more than 100 of them ready to go home today,” said Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications for the Wisconsin Humane Society, in a news release.
Through June 11, adoption fees for dogs over six months old are $75 and adoption fees for “benchwarmer” dogs are $25.
WHS has shelters in Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay, as well as Saukville, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha. Some dogs are available for adoption from foster homes, as well.
If you are unable to adopt, but still want to help a dog in need and open shelter space, you can consider bringing a dog home to foster. WHS provides all necessary medications, supplies, food, instructions and support.
The Wisconsin Humane Society serves more than 40,000 animals each year.
