(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) CLEVELAND, Ohio –The momentum that the Green Bay softball team ended the regular season with has translated to the postseason, with the Phoenix upsetting No. 3 IU Indy in the Horizon League Championships First Round by a score of 4-2.
The Phoenix offense was led by a 4-for-4, two-RBI day from Paige Hanson, while Genesis Eggart locked down the IU Indy offense, throwing a complete game and allowing just two runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring started in the third inning when Brooke Schwall doubled home Kendal Herschbach to give GB a 1-0 lead. However, the Jaguars responded almost immediately, executing a first and third double steal in the bottom half of the third to tie it up at one.
The Phoenix reclaimed its one-run advantage in the fifth inning, this time with an RBI single off the bat of Hanson that brought home Jenna Redders. GB extended that lead to 3-1 in the top half of the sixth thanks to a solo homer from Sara Ebner.
One more GB insurance run was added in the seventh thanks to another solo shot, this time from Hanson, to go up 4-1. IU Indy threatened in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across one run before Eggart ended the threat and secured the 4-2 win for Green Bay.
In addition to Hanson, Ebner and Schwall were leaders offensively for Green Bay. Ebner finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Schwall went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Eggart went seven innings in the circle, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

» The Phoenix out-hit the Jaguars at a 12-6 clip.
» Green Bay went 5-for-13 (.385) with runners in scoring position.
» Eggart limited IU Indianapolis to just 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
