MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have signed right-handed pitcher Elvin Rodríguez to a one-year contract with a club option for 2026. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher JB Bukauskas was designated for assignment. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Rodríguez, 26, pitched last season with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in the Central League of Nippon Professional Baseball, where he went 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 1 save in 32 games (1 start) while posting a 1.16 WHIP. He went to Japan in July 2023 after pitching parts of two seasons in the Major Leagues with Detroit (7 games/5 starts in 2022) and Tampa Bay (1 game in 2023).
The native of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic originally signed with Los Angeles-AL on July 4, 2014 as a non-drafted free agent. He was traded by the Angels to the Tigers on September 15, 2017 as the player to be named in the deal for outfielder Justin Upton. Rodríguez joined Tampa Bay via free agency on January 11, 2023.
