(LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in their series opener at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Monday.
Aaron Civale allowed 1 run on 7-hits in five innings to earn the win.
Civale said it’s great to be playing meaningful games yet.
And Civale said that he is excited to pitch with a good defense behind him.
William Contreras and Joey Ortiz drove in a pair of runs as the Brewers have won four-of-five, seeing their magic number to clinch the NL Central drop to 2.
The win keeps the Brewers 2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and pulls the Brewers within 3 games on the Phillies for 1 of the top 2 spots in the National overall standings. The top 2 teams get first-round byes in the playoffs.
With the team being so close to clinching, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was asked if this was something he foresaw back in spring training.
Murphy said there there are a lot of contributors on this team.
