(WNFL/LEARFIELD) ST. LOUIS – It got a little too close for comfort, but Tuesday’s 3-2 win at division rival St. Louis gives the Brewers a six-game winning streak.
The biggest divisional lead got a little bigger. The Brewers lead the now second-place Chicago Cubs by 11 1/2 games and third-place St. Louis by 12.
Milwaukee scored the first three runs, then watched pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter smash a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth.
St. Louis loaded the bases with one out, but closer Devin Williams was able to slam the door.
The Brewers’ Joey Ortiz spoke about watching Williams work out of the jam.
Starter Frankie Montas won after pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just one hit.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about the strong outing by Montas.
Murphy also talked about how William Contreras who had 3 hits handled Montas.
Tobias Myers is Wednesday’s scheduled starter for the Brewers.
