(MARQUETTE ATHLETICS) – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team begins the season ranked 24th in the AVCA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Monday afternoon.
MU returns six starters from a 2023 team that won a share of its fourth BIG EAST Conference regular season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Golden Eagles began the 2023 campaign ranked No. 12 and have ended four seasons (2013, 2018, 2019, 2022) ranked in the AVCA’s final poll of the year.
Marquette has seven matches this year during the regular season against six teams listed in the preseason poll (No. 3 Wisconsin, No. 4 Pittsburgh, No. 5 Stanford, No. 12 Creighton, No. 13 Kansas, No. 22 Dayton). Western Kentucky (157 points) and Western Michigan (10) are also receiving votes.
The Golden Eagles host Northwestern at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Al McGuire Center in their lone preseason exhibition match. MU’s annual intra-squad scrimmage and youth clinic is slated for Sunday, Aug. 25.
