TOWN OF SCHLESWIG, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Four acres of cornfield and wooded area were burned in a fire near Kiel Thursday.
Around 12:15 p.m., the Kiel Fire Department was called to the intersection of County Road X and Wilke Lake Road in the Town of Schleswig for reports of a half-acre of cornfield on fire.
When crews arrived, they discovered three acres of cornfield and wooded area burning.
Due to the expanding size of the incident resulting from high wind speeds, Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Card 6-1-4 was activated by incident command to the working still bringing additional resources to the scene. The fire was deemed under control and contained within twenty minutes of crews arriving on scene.
Officials say four acres of field and wooded area were burned, in total. No injuries to fire personnel or civilians were sustained during the incident.
At this time, the cause of the fire is believed to be from farming equipment.
