GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity’s largest development plan to date is officially underway.
On Wednesday, the organization broke ground on a new $4 million, 14-unit project called “Habitat Homestead.”
Two three-unit townhouses and eight single-family homes on a 2.7-acre parcel of land on Green Bay’s east side will make up Habitat Homestead, creating a small residential community.
“We collaborated with Encompass Childcare, who previously owned this piece of land, and talked to their board of directors and we were able to purchase the land from them because they weren’t going to be using it anymore,” said Jessica Diederich, chief executive officer of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity. “We worked with the city of Green Bay, developers and engineers, to create what will be a whole new neighborhood.”
The organization says this project will provide decent, affordable homes to low-to-moderate income families in the area who struggle to find a place to live and help them achieve their dream of home ownership.
Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987 and is part of a global non-profit organization known for helping individuals and families in need build or improve a place to call home.
