GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A worker was taken away from Lambeau Field in an ambulance Thursday morning.
Fire Chief Matthew Knott says the man was trapped in the building and needed to be extricated. The extrication took about seven minutes.
Crews were called around 10 a.m. Around 10:30 a.m., the man was brought out of the building. First responders could be seen doing chest compressions on him before loading him into an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Knott said.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the man works for Mavid Construction, a subcontractor.
The incident happened on the north end of the stadium, where work on a new scoreboard is ongoing. The general contractor, Miron Construction, issued this statement:
“Today, on the Lambeau Field project site in Green Bay, Wis., an employee of a subcontractor experienced a serious incident on site and is currently in critical condition. We do not have further details of the incident to share at this time, aside from the fact that the investigation is ongoing, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities. Our main concern is for the individual involved, their family, and the team members on site.”
Firefighters say they are still investigating the location where the man was trapped.
“There’s ongoing construction throughout this building,” said Knott. “We’re working closely to determine specific locations and specific areas and causes of where this actually occurred, and, like I said, that will be put out as soon as we can, but it’s part of our ongoing investigation.”
Green Bay Police Department Chief Chris Davis said there is no indication the incident was a crime.
No one else was injured.
Miron Construction tells FOX 11 that there are multiple construction projects occurring at Lambeau Field, independent of each other. Post-incident, work continued at all projects outside of the north scoreboard, where the incident took place.
