OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Outagamie County has awarded $2 million of its $3.5 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds set aside to support affordable housing.
Back in August, the county announced it would be investing $3.5 million of its American Rescue Plan Act funding into affordable housing.
Since then, the county has created the Affordable Housing Production Grant program. And through that program, it is now making its first awards.
RISE Apartments will be receiving $1 million to build a 48-unit housing community over the span of two blocks in downtown Appleton. The housing community will include 40 multi-family units and eight townhomes. There will be eight one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units and eight three-bedroom units.
The project is intended to serve a variety of households, with five units be market-rate, but the rest being at reduced cost.
Nearly $1 million is also be awarded to the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity for a 10-unit “scattered site homeownership project.” The units will be single-family detached homes — seven will be three-bedroom units and three will be two-bedroom units. The homes will be located throughout the Fox Cities, including in Kaukauna, Little Chute and Appleton. Each home will be sold households earning at or below 60% of the county median income through 0% interest mortgages.
Outagamie County still has over $1.5 million available through its program. Applications will be accepted through the month of June.
