MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For the first time in its 72-year history, a Manitowoc museum is fully accessible.
The Rahr-West Art Museum marked the completion of its $1.3 million accessibility renovation project Friday.
It features full elevator access to all four floors of the museum’s historic Vilas-Rahr Mansion and a full second floor renovation.
Executive director of the Rahr-West museum, Greg Vadney, says it’s something that’s been needed.
“For years we have hosted groups of people, for different reasons, their ability didn’t allow them to take stairs and this elevator was something that they had needed for every event that they did, every year of our existence so to be able to find a public source of funding and then supplement that with private funding to kind of reinvigorate the museum, that’s been a godsend,” Vandney said.
With the renovation complete, the second floor is now open to the public again.
