TOWN OF LAMARTINE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two people died in a Fond du Lac County crash where witnesses say one of the vehicles was driving erratically.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 1 p.m. Thursday on State Highway 23 near Heinrich Road in the town of Lamartine.
Upon arrival by deputies, both drivers were already deceased.
Witnesses told deputies that an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound vehicle. Witnesses say that the eastbound vehicle had previously crossed the centerline once already before coming back in the lane of travel and then crossed again before striking the westbound vehicle.
The eastbound vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old Rosendale woman. The westbound vehicle was driven by a 64-year-old Ripon man.
There were no other occupants in the vehicles.
Based on witness statements and the initial investigation, deputies say it is believed that the driver of the eastbound vehicle may have been distracted by use of a cell phone, however this has not been confirmed and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
