GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Two Green Bay schools will have extra police presence on campus today after threats were made online.
Both Preble High School and Edison Middle School received social media threats.
On Monday night, the Green Bay Area Public School District said it was made aware of a social media threat about a potential shooting to happen Tuesday during the 5th hour at Edison Middle School.
The Green Bay Police Department worked the case overnight and says it has identified a Green Bay school district student in that case. Jennifer Gonzalez with the Green Bay Police Department says charges will be recommended against the student.
While wrapping up that investigation, police learned of a similar threat made against Preble High School. Police are still working to determine where that post originated from.
In an email to families, the district says, in part:
Please remind your students of the importance of sharing with an adult when they hear or see something. If you or your child have any additional information you can report suspicious activity by contacting Speak Up/Speak Out at 1-800-697-8761 or Crime Stoppers at 920-432-STOP (7867).
Green Bay Police sent out a similar message saying the threats are being taken seriously.
