GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin State Senator Melissa Agard had her first stop for the Grass Routes Tour in Green Bay on Friday to discuss the benefits of cannabis legalization.
Agard said cannabis legalization is generally supported by the vast majority of Wisconsinites, but that Republicans at the state Capitol still aren’t convinced.
“We will be a more safe, prosperous, and forward-moving state with full legalization,” said Agard. “Prohibition did not work with alcohol, and the prohibition of cannabis is currently not working.”
Agard said many of the attendees support cannabis legalization because it would support small businesses, personal liberties and freedom, lessen racial disparities, and provide medicinal relief.
“For the past decade, I have championed cannabis legalization in Wisconsin. Throughout that time, the people who reach out to my office about this policy are not defined by party affiliation or geography, nor do they have the same demographics in age, race, or gender,” said Agard. “It is a broad coalition of support like few I have seen during my time in the legislature.”
