GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Metro Transit System is encouraging residents to take a ride with them through reduced fares.
Beginning April 1:
- a 30 day adult pass will go from $39 to $19,
- a 30 day reduced fare pass that serves the elderly and disabled will go from $29 to $9, and
- one way trips will go from $4 to $2
Green Bay Mayor, Eric Genrich, says they’re using CARES funding to support the reduced prices.
“This is not at all a diversion of local resources,” said Genrich. “These are federal dollars that came to transit systems across the country for this and other sorts of purposes.”
Transit director, Patty Kiewiz, says the number of riders has significantly decreased since the start of the pandemic.
“Pre-pandemic, we were transporting over 4 thousand trips per day, and we’ve seen that drop tremendously,” said Kiewiz.
The price reduction is in place through the end of 2023, and is meant to encourage new people to ride the bus, and thank those who have been riding the bus for years.
