GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay says its services will be affected this year after not meeting its Christmas Campaign goal for the second year in a row. Some of the services that could be affected include rent and utility assistance, bus passes, gas and hotel vouchers, and more.
The organization’s goal was $1.335 million. On the last collection day, the campaign reached 86% of the goal, leaving a deficit of $183,000.
Nicole Hanley with the Salvation Army shared a few factors that may have contributed to the shortfall.
“We did run into some bad weather right in the final days of bell ringing, which are typically some of our biggest days,” said Hanley. “Some of our general mail donations were down this year too.”
The campaign kicked off in November.
Money collected during the Christmas Campaign accounts for 60% of the annual fundraising budget. The funds directly support services that help thousands of families and individuals in need.
The community can still help bridge the gap, by donating here.
For the 2021 holiday season, the campaign reached 96% of its $1.396 million goal, leaving a deficit of $59,000.
